Our operations aim to record zero accidents causing harm to any individual through the following standards:
- We
provide adequate control of health and safety risks and regular
monitoring to assess the appropriateness of these risks over time
- We provide appropriate training, equipment and maintenance to prevent accidents
- We
consult with employees at all levels to ensure that their instruction,
supervision and levels of competency are appropriate to their position
- We review and report on health and safety at our operations as part of internal management practice and external communications
- The
Sierra Rutile mine site has a fully staffed and equipped hospital which
is funded by the company and provides free healthcare for employees and
their dependents
We
recorded no work related fatality in 2006 and achieved a 94.4%
improvement in Long Term Injury rates (from 6.46 to 0.36). While the
number of LTI’s was significantly lower than the previous year, we
remain committed to ensuring that Health & Safety is central to the
way we manage our business.
